Module 2: Reinforcement Activity

Collaborative Learning

Collaborative learning opportunities, such as team-based collaboration, can be morphed into leaderboards, badges, and rewards by introducing gamification into the courses. Gamification strengthens learning retention by providing learning content in a fun and entertaining way where students compete toward a goal, such as points, awards, etc. Students choose to participate more when there’s something to earn due to having extrinsic motivation. In extrinsic motivation, students strive to win the game, beat the highest score, etc. By incorporating gamification, students will gain the knowledge presented while gaining a sense of enjoyment by learning in a gaming environment.

I am participating in the Auburn AI course to receive a digital badge. Other badge-awarding programs for students in higher education include badge-awarding programs at The University of Utah. This university provides badge-earning opportunities in the following programs:

  • Project Management Fundamentals
  • Cybersecurity Bootcamp
  • Behavioral and Mental Health Substance Abuse
  • Population Health for Nurses
  • Leadership Roles in Primary Care
  • Data Analytics

And many more.
