Module 4: Reinforcement Activity

I conducted the listening quiz with my husband and documented his answers versus the correct answers. While asking him to write 1-8 on the left-hand side, he questioned it, but I did not give him an answer, nor did I repeat it, and he correctly wrote numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, …8. After conducting the activity, he wanted to try and complete the other questions, which he found frustrating but  was  able to answer some of the questions correctly. Challenge questions: A man builds a square h ouse and all sides face south, a bear comes to the door and rings the doorbell. What color is the bear? His answer: No color listed / Brown Correct answer: White- it’s a polar bear (the only place you can build a house with 4 sides facing South is the North Pole). You walk into a COLD DARK room and in the COLD DARK room, you see a candle, a kerosene lamp, an oil heater, and a fireplace with paper and kindling. (say this a bit quickly). You have one match in your matchbox, which do you light FIRST, ...

Module 3: Reinforcement Activity

According to Future Learn, Gamification is “a strategy that implements game-like elements into non-gaming activities to enhance engagement and motivation.” Gamification strengthens learning retention by providing engaging learning content to the learners. How may they do this? By selling learners with a good story. By including a good story with a detailed background, such as what has caused this “mission” to happen and what the overall goal is, learners will form a connection and show interest in pursuing the gamified lesson. This intrigue to the game is due to intrinsic motivation where learners are genuinely interested in the story, leading to interest in the game. Gamification also draws on learners' extrinsic motivation, where their emotions are tested as their competitiveness may appear throughout the lessons to achieve the points suggested or receive the incentive. Gamification can foster a sense of community by asking earners to collectively score a total amount of points t...

Module 2: Reinforcement Activity

Collaborative Learning  Collaborative learning opportunities, such as team-based collaboration, can be morphed into leaderboards, badges, and rewards by introducing gamification into the courses. Gamification strengthens learning retention by providing learning content in a fun and entertaining way where students compete toward a goal, such as points, awards, etc. Students choose to participate more when there’s something to earn due to having extrinsic motivation. In extrinsic motivation, students strive to win the game, beat the highest score, etc. By incorporating gamification, students will gain the knowledge presented while gaining a sense of enjoyment by learning in a gaming environment.  I am participating in the Auburn AI course to receive a digital badge. Other badge-awarding programs for students in higher education include badge-awarding programs at The University of Utah. This university provides badge-earning opportunities in the following programs:...

Discovering Constructivism Theory and Activities      In this post, you will discover the benefits that constructivism has on the classroom when implemented correctly to foster collaboration and embrace creative thinking. 1) What learning theory would make this activity feasible? The learning theory that would make the activity feasible is constructivism. Constructivism occurs in online learning when interaction and collaboration take place in a digital environment. According to the text, constructivism occurs when “a student takes new information and “constructs” their meaning of the content based on their existing knowledge, attitudes, and experiences” (Hodell, 2021). In constructivism, students are asked to draw conclusions based on their experiences. This reflects directly on the activity as students are asked to compile a list of excuses based on the various scenarios. In this activity, the students are in control of their learning, and there is no influence f...
